This file contains important information about installing SmartSuite
for OS/2 Warp 4 Release 1.5.1, an update to SmartSuite Release 1.5. 

SmartSuite Release 1.5.1 is only available electronically. To obtain 
the update, download the SmartSuite for OS/2 Warp 4 Release 1.5.1 
Update executable (EXE) file from the Lotus Support Web site 
(www.lotus.com/support). At a system prompt, change to the location 
of the Update executable, type <filename> /d (where <filename> is the 
appropriate language version file name), and then press ENTER.  All 
files will be unzipped into the \OS2SS151 directory.

Note: The "/d" parameter unzips the subdirectories.

SmartSuite Release 1.5.1 includes:

 * Improved Microsoft Excel and Word filters in 1-2-3 and Word Pro
 * Fixes for customer-reported issues

This file contains four sections:

This software is subject to the same terms and conditions as the 
original program (SmartSuite for OS/2 Warp 4 Release 1.5). To 
view the license agreement, double-click the Lotus Software 
License Directory folder in the Lotus Accessories folder.

I. INSTALLING SMARTSUITE RELEASE 1.5.1

A. System Requirements
----------------------
The system requirements for SmartSuite Release 1.5.1 are the 
same as the SmartSuite Release 1.5 requirements. For more 
information, refer to Section I-1 in the SmartSuite Readme file 
(README.TXT) located in the \LOTUSW4 directory.

Lotus recommends using the latest release of IBM OS/2 Warp 4 
FixPak.

B. Installing SmartSuite Release 1.5.1 
--------------------------------------
SmartSuite Release 1.5.1 must be installed on a computer 
with a pre-existing installation of SmartSuite Release 1.5, 
since the files in SmartSuite Release 1.5.1 do not constitute 
a complete product. You can verify your existing SmartSuite for 
OS/2 release by selecting Help About xxxx (where xxxx is the 
product name) from within any SmartSuite application. 
If the release number is not 1.5, you must install SmartSuite 
for OS/2 Warp 4 Release 1.5 before proceeding.

Note: The SmartSuite Release 1.5.1 Update Install Program does 
not provide an option for a Custom Install. If you want to 
add features to your pre-existing Release 1.5 installation, 
you must re-install SmartSuite Release 1.5 using the Custom 
Install option. When that installation is complete, install 
SmartSuite Release 1.5.1.

Installing SmartSuite Release 1.5.1 on a stand-alone computer
or file server: 
-------------------------------------------------------------
1. Close all Lotus SmartSuite for OS/2 applications. If you are 
   installing on a server, make sure that no network clients 
   are using the SmartSuite applications.
   
2. Change to the \OS2SS151 directory.

3. Type UPDATE and press ENTER to start the Update Install Program.

4. If you are installing on a stand-alone computer, skip to step 7.
 
5. If you are installing on a file server, select Install on a file 
   server in the Welcome to the Lotus Install Program (Update) dialog 
   box, and then click Next.

6. In the File Server Install or Network Distribution (Update) 
   dialog box, select File server, and then click Next.

   Note: SmartSuite Release 1.5.1 does not require node installations. 
   When you install SmartSuite Release 1.5.1 on the file server, the 
   updated files are automatically available to the nodes. 

7. Follow the instructions on the screen. Before copying files, 
   the Update Install Program collects information and displays 
   the directory location where SmartSuite Release 1.5.1 will be 
   installed.

8. Click Next to begin copying files and complete the installation.
 
When the installation is finished, you can delete the \OS2SS151 
directory tree.

The Update Install Program will display an error message and exit
if it encounters an irregularity in the pre-existing installation or
if SmartSuite Release 1.5 is not installed. For more information 
about error conditions, refer to the Troubleshooting section below.

Installing SmartSuite Release 1.5.1 for network distribution:
-------------------------------------------------------------
To install SmartSuite Release 1.5.1 for network distribution 
to NEW users, follow the instructions in "Installing SmartSuite 
Release 1.5.1 on a stand-alone computer or file server" above. 
In step 6, select Network distribution and then click Next.

The SmartSuite Release 1.5.1 updated files are NOT automatically 
available to pre-existing SmartSuite installations. To update 
pre-existing SmartSuite Release 1.5 installations, install 
SmartSuite Release 1.5.1 to a stand-alone computer or file
server, following the instructions in the preceding section.  

Installing SmartSuite Release 1.5.1 using CID 
(Configuration, Installation, and Distribution):
------------------------------------------------
1. Close all Lotus SmartSuite for OS/2 applications. 
   
2. Change to the \OS2SS151\<language> directory (where <language> 
   is the language version of SmartSuite).

3. In the OS/2 System Editor, open the SUITE.RSP file located in 
   the \OS2SS151\<language> directory. Edit the file appropriately 
   and then save the file.

   Note: If you installed SmartSuite Release 1.5 using CID and have a
   previously edited version of the SUITE.RSP response file, you 
   can refer to or use that file.

4. In the OS/2 System Editor, open the UPDSSCID.CMD file located 
   in the \OS2SS151\<language> directory. Edit the file to add the 
   appropriate directory information for your environment. 

5. Save the UPDSSCID.CMD file and then exit the OS/2 System Editor.

6. Type UPDSSCID and press ENTER to initiate the SmartSuite 
   Release 1.5.1 installation.

C. Uninstalling SmartSuite Release 1.5.1
----------------------------------------
The Uninstall process for SmartSuite Release 1.5.1 is the same as
the SmartSuite Release 1.5 Uninstall process. For more information, 
refer to Section I-6, Uninstalling SmartSuite Products, in the 
SmartSuite Readme file (README.TXT) located in the \LOTUSW4 directory.

A. System Requirements
----------------------
The system requirements for SmartSuite Release 1.5.1 are the 
same as the SmartSuite Release 1.5 requirements. For more 
information, refer to Section A in the WorkSpace On-Demand Readme 
file (READWSOD.TXT) located in the \OS2SS151 directory. 

B. Installing SmartSuite Release 1.5.1 on WorkSpace On-Demand
-------------------------------------------------------------
SmartSuite Release 1.5.1 must be installed on a Workspace On-Demand 
Application server with a pre-existing installation of 
SmartSuite Release 1.5, since the files in SmartSuite Release 1.5.1 
do not constitute a complete product. 

You will need to refer to the WorkSpace On-Demand Readme file 
(READWSOD.TXT) to complete the installation. This file is located 
in the \OS2SS151 directory.

1. Install SmartSuite Release 1.5.1 on the WorkSpace On-Demand 
   Application server using the UPDSSCID.CMD command file.

   a. Close all Lotus SmartSuite for OS/2 applications. 
   
   b. Change to the \OS2SS151\<language> directory (where <language> 
      is the language version of SmartSuite).

   c. In the OS/2 System Editor, open the SUITE.RSP file located in 
      the \OS2SS151\<language> directory. Edit the file appropriately
      for your environment. For more information, refer to the
      READWSOD.TXT file.

   d. Save the SUITE.RSP file. 

   e. In the OS/2 System Editor, open the UPDSSCID.CMD file located 
      in the \OS2SS151\<language> directory. Edit the file to add the 
      appropriate information for your environment.

      RSPDIR = <drive>:\OS2SS151\<language>\SUITE.RSP
      LOGDIR = <drive>:\OS2SS151\SUITE.LOG
      EXEPATH = <drive>:\OS2SS151
      NAME = SRVNAME

   f. Save the UPDSSCID.CMD file and then exit the OS/2 System Editor.   

   g. Type UPDSSCID and press ENTER to initiate the SmartSuite 
      Release 1.5.1 installation on the Application server.

2. After SmartSuite Release 1.5.1 is successfully installed on the 
   Application server, update the users and client machines.

   a. Follow the instructions in step 8 of Section D in the 
      READWSOD.TXT file to complete the SmartSuite installation for 
      users and client machines. In step 8-b, type YES and press 
      ENTER in response to the two questions: 

      "Do you want to perform SmartSuite Installation for any 
      users?"        

      "Do you want to perform SmartSuite Installation on any 
      client machines?" 

   b. Perform step 9 in Section D of the READWSOD.TXT to complete 
      the installation of SmartSuite Release 1.5.1.

Note: The WorkSpace On-Demand Readme file (READWSOD.TXT) in 
SmartSuite Release 1.5.1 contains updated information and is more  
recent than the READWSOD.TXT file in SmartSuite Release 1.5. You 
may want to copy the READWSOD.TXT file to an alternate location 
if you plan to delete the \OS2SS151 directory tree after the 
installation is finished. 

C. Uninstalling SmartSuite Release 1.5.1 on WorkSpace On-Demand
---------------------------------------------------------------
The Uninstall process for SmartSuite Release 1.5.1 is the same as
the SmartSuite Release 1.5 Uninstall process. For complete 
information, refer to Section G in the WorkSpace On-Demand Readme 
file (READWSOD.TXT) located in the \OS2SS151 directory.

A. Improved Microsoft Excel and Word Filters in 1-2-3 and 
   Word Pro
---------------------------------------------------------
Microsoft Office file import and export filters are available 
in 1-2-3 and Word Pro. The File - Open and File - Save functions
maintain as much data and functionality as possible. Note that there 
is not a 1:1 correspondence for all features in Microsoft Office 
and Lotus SmartSuite, so 100% functionality cannot be achieved.

1-2-3
-----
1-2-3 contains improved Microsoft Excel import and export filters:

 * 1-2-3 opens and exports Excel 2000 files. You can open Excel 
   2000 files in 1-2-3 by choosing File - Open and selecting 
   Microsoft Excel (XLS;XLT;XLW) for Type of file. You can save 
   a 1-2-3 file as an Excel 2000 file by choosing File - Save As 
   and selecting Microsoft Excel 97-2000 Workbook (XLS) for Save 
   file as type.

 * 1-2-3 exports and displays outlines to and from Excel Release 4.0 
   and later. In 1-2-3, you can hide or show the row outline frame 
   independently of the column outline frame. In Excel, you must 
   either hide both frames or show both frames. If you save a 1-2-3 
   file containing an outline with hidden frames as an Excel file, 
   the frame setting is not retained.

Word Pro
--------
Word Pro contains improved Microsoft Word 97 import and export filters:

 * Word Pro correctly displays Word 97 files that contain a 
   graphic in the header.
 * Word Pro correctly scales graphics contained in Word 97 files.
 * Word Pro displays bookmarks for hyperlinks to bookmarks contained 
   in Word 97 files.
 * Word Pro exports correctly sized frames to Word 97.
 * Word Pro correctly exports page borders to Word 97.

Word Pro contains an improved Microsoft Excel 97 filter:

 * Word Pro correctly displays Excel 97 files modified and saved 
   in 1-2-3.

B. New Icon in Lotus Assistance Folder
--------------------------------------
The Update Install Program adds a new icon "SmartSuite Release 1.5.1 
Product Updates" to the Lotus Assistance Folder. Double-click the 
icon to open this Readme file (UPDATE.TXT). 

C. Multilingual Installation
----------------------------
SmartSuite Release 1.5.1 does not support multilingual installations 
on a stand-alone or server-node installation. Only the primary
language installation can be updated using the Update Install
Program.

IV. TROUBLESHOOTING
===================

SmartSuite Release 1.5.1 Update Install Program Displays Error 
Message and Exits
-------------------------------------------------------------
The SmartSuite Release 1.5.1 Update Install Program displays an 
error message and exits if one of the following conditions is 
encountered during execution:

 * The Update Install Program cannot find a pre-existing installation 
   of SmartSuite Release 1.5. You may have an earlier release
   of SmartSuite installed or SmartSuite may not be installed at all.
   To fix this problem, install SmartSuite Release 1.5 and then 
   install SmartSuite Release 1.5.1.

 * The Update Install Program cannot find the EPFIS.INI and 
   INSTALL.INI files or these files are deleted or contain 
   errors. If you installed Lotus Notes after installing 
   SmartSuite Release 1.5, some of the statements in these files may 
   be incorrect for SmartSuite. To fix this problem, re-install 
   SmartSuite Release 1.5 and then install SmartSuite Release 1.5.1.

SmartSuite Applications Do Not Work After Update Install Program Fails
----------------------------------------------------------------------
If the Update Install Program fails while copying files, a dialog
box may prompt you to delete all of the files copied up to that 
point in the installation. 

 * Choosing "yes" to remove the files directs the program to delete 
   files in the \LOTUSW4 directory tree. Since these are the same 
   files used by SmartSuite Release 1.5, these applications may no 
   longer function correctly after the files are deleted.

 * Choosing "no" to remove the files does not delete any files.

Lotus recommends that you choose "no" if a dialog box prompts you to
remove files. If you inadvertently choose "yes" to remove the files, 
you can:

 * Retry the SmartSuite Release 1.5.1.

 * Re-install SmartSuite Release 1.5 and then install SmartSuite 
   Release 1.5.1.
